Something Old, Something New

Safe Places in Leather

Guys, I had the most insane thought a few moments ago...I actually considered starting a new blog anonymously .  For some strange reason I felt reservations about being completely transparent on this platform.  Honestly, I felt an inkling of fear about being myself and sharing here on my very own blog, but why?? Especially since I've been blogging for 5 years.

If you know me personally then you know that I am incredibly accommodating, so in my mind, I thought that maybe since this is a fashion and style blog that you guys wouldn't be interested in hearing a rant or talk about my personal development.  Over time, as I've gotten older, I have done quite a bit of psychological work to become this strong mind individual.  And although, I may seem detached and rather reserved when interacting with others, I am very in tuned with myself.  Please let me know if you would be interested in more personal content, along with outfit posts.  I want this blog to be a safe place for all of us to share our amazing style, as well as personal testaments.  Overtime, I learned that on the surface we may seem different, but we are all really similar and share many of the same struggles.  Here's to knowing a little bit more about the sharply dressed young lady in all of these photos.

Outfit time:::  I'm sporting one of my favorite vintage blouses.  I just love the elegance that the pussy-tie bow gives.  This blouse is also 100% silk, and feels absolutely amazing on my skin.  I know I thrifted it years ago, but I can't recall from where.  I do, however, know exactly where this awesome pink leather skirt is from.  I bought this beauty in the Zara sale many years ago.  I would like to add that you may never know the many outfit options a pink leather skirt can provide until you own one.  The possibilities are endless guys.  I vote pink as a new neutral.

Strong and Springy

Happy Spring guys!!!  The temps are warming up, but I am still playing it safe in opaque tights especially since we have been getting so much rain lately.  I absolutely hate getting rain water on my bare legs.

In this post, I wore a "muscle" shirt that was gifted to me by my older cousin.  The shirt was actually given to me a few years ago, and I hadn't gotten around to wearing it until just now.  I paired the form fitting shirt with a pink leather skirt I purchased at Zara, and added some opaque burgundy tights to complete the look.

ShopStyle Bloggers Give Back with Dress for Success - Power Outfit

Hey Lovelies!!! In this post, I share what it means to dress confidently especially when it come to tackling my career.  This post is a collaboration with Dress for Success and ShopStyle in an effort to promote and give to a very worthy cause.  I am apart of a group of style bloggers that are participating in ShopStyle's Bloggers Give Campaign.  During the short promotion period of December 8-9, 2015 I will be donating 10% of all sales from my blog to Dress for Success, and PopSugar, Inc. through ShopStyle will match 100% of my contribution (more info here).

Now that all of that is out of the way let's talk about how fabulous this light pink leather skirt from Zara is.  The skirt is a unique color and I just love the A line style of it.  Very flattering.  I paired my skirt with the cutest shrunken sweater.  I scored the sweater at the Goodwill for about $2.99.  It has a very 1960s inspired look, and I figured it would pair nicely with several pieces in my wardrobe.  Fun tights, and neutral shoes complete the look perfectly.

In this outfit I feel like I am Something Old, Something New - the brand.  I am wearing both thrifted (the sweater) and current (skirt form Zara) clothing, and I am completely confident in myself.  This look is my Power Outfit.  A power outfit isn't about wearing a black or navy suit; my power outfit is about being 100% unapologetically myself.  As a young child I was encouraged by my grandmother to explore style options, and to not be a conformist.  That piece of advice is ever-present in my world...and wardrobe.
