Do You See this COAT

Happy start of the week guys, I hope you all are feeling as excited and motivated as I am to round out the last month of year.  I am trying my hardest to be consistent, and stay on my blogging schedule.  Oh and I want to encourage you guys to please subscribe to the blog so that you will be notified whenever I post, and receive our weekly newsletter of what's happening with SOSNU.

Now that all of that is out of the way, let's get to my outfits and this COAT.  I purchased this coat while in Dallas.  My bestie and I were doing what we do best, looking for the best thrift finds in the city when we came across this beauty.  Sadly, I don't remember much about the charity shop; however, I do recall gathering this coat from the discount table though.  Discount as $1.00.  $1 USD.  I couldn't believe my luck.  There was no question in my mind that this baby was coming home with me.  I also snagged a cute little blazer that I hope to feature soon.

Port Work - Artist Styling

I know you guys have heard the story of my fashion career journey a million times, so I won't bore you here with specifics.  However, in this blog post I want to highlight one aspect of my job - Artist Styling. 

A few weeks ago I had the great privilege of working with an artist as she prepared for a special performance at an outdoor music and art festival.  My brief was to simply source a unique headpiece for her performance (have a look at the picture below, and please leave a comment telling me how you think I did).  I was really grateful for the opportunity to get my feet wet in this realm of styling here in Memphis because although I've styled artists for  video shoots and magazine shoots abroad, this was my first time as a professional styling an artist for a performance.

If I may be honest, I really wouldn't say personal styling is my preference or strongest suite.  With styling people in their everyday lives, outfits have to be practical.  On the other hand, with something like styling an artist for a stage performance, I get to be more extravagant.  And that's one of the biggest differences between personal styling and editorial styling.  Personal styling is usually more practical, and for an actual everyday people.  Editorial is all about fantasy, and playing dress up with a model.  In my opinion the editorial side of things is a bit more fun.  However several of my personal stylist friends absolutely love connecting with real people, and helping to build their self confidence by helping them to look a bit more stylish.

SOSNU Recents

Hey guys, I'm back and I'm really excited because in this blog post I will be featuring Something Old (a thrifted/pre-loved item), and Something New (an item purchased from regular retail store).  I feel like it's been a few months since I've had new pieces to share on the blog.  Honestly, I haven't been inspired to go out to the shops and buy things.  Nothing is really exciting or aspirational - like I am currently coveting nothing.  There have been times when I would literally have tons of items in my online shopping carts from several retailers.  I don't know what's happening in fashion anymore.  But I digress, I am really pumped about these buys.

Something Old - first up is this beautifully structured navy blue pinstriped double breasted blazer.  The width of shoulders with the shoulder pads literally make me beam from within.  I love to exaggerate my shoulders simple because the top portion of my body because it's my larger half.  By placing emphasis on the shoulders draws attention from my larger bustline, an area of my body that I am not fully comfortable with.  As a stylist, I understand that the ultimate goal in dressing is to create proportional balance especially with personal styling and everyday wear.  However, as an editorial stylist I have a knack for doing things differently, and creating looks that are a bit off.   It's the little details that make dressing up fun for me.  Oh I almost forgot to mention that I scored this beauty for pennies during a 50% off sale at my local Salvation Army.

Something New -  guys pan down to this rich, autumnal midi skirt.  There are so many elements of this skirt that I love.  The midi length is a huge plus. The black band at the waist is so flattering.  The lace detail and the trimming at the hem is spot on trend, and lastly the rich burgundy color.  This skirt is the perfect seasonal addition to any wardrobe.
