Something Old, Something New

Silver Rights

I wanted to publish this post yesterday, but in observation of Dr. King and the inaugural events...I took off.  I sat back and watched history take place, and boy was it admirable.  I wore this outfit to work on a day I felt like partially complying with office dress code.  My sweater is vintage, it was given to me by my older cousin.  I particularly love the unique color blue of the sweater, and the fact that its super soft.

At the beginning of last year I made a promise to be persistent with this blog (well actually the promise was to just do something with the blog).  I am very proud of what Something Old, Something New has become, and going into the new year I am super excited about the things that are to come for the blog.
Because it has been soooooo cold outside its been quite difficult for me to get outfit shots, but this week I braved the weather and took advantage of the little sunshine.  My lovely new skirt is what inspired me to definitely take pictures. Coming in at $3.99 from my local Goodwill, my skirt was a super deal.  I especially love the detailing at the waist with the 2 gold buttons.

Hope all is well my good people.  Have you ever gotten a compliment, but the person saying it kind of felt like they were about to offend you; yet, they said it anyway?? Yea that happened to me.  A co-worker was talking about how I alway dress so fashionable around the office. She said I usually wear one off beat, bizarre item of clothing and some how it brings the entire outfit together.  She was very hesitant when she was saying this (fearful of hurting my feelings), but I was completely flattered.  I told her that mixing is my forte', and that if she noticed that about my style then I had accomplished my goals, and properly displayed my style philosophy.  She simply hit me with an "aww ok". lol
Well the off beat piece in this outfit is my vintage gold leather shirt.  My dearest, Mia of Eve's Apple Vintage, sold me this gem from her personal vintage collection.  I remember being so excited about this shirt that I wore it out the store. lol.  Here I belted the shirt for a slimmer shape, but i've worn the shirt without the belt with a pair of skinny jeans and it looks super cute.

[BLOG FEATURE] Last Week I was featured on NYTimes.com's Fashion & Style - Street Style section.  The theme was Metallics so I submitted my photo with my gold shirt, and it was selected.  I included a screenshot of myself from site, but you can click here to check it out for yourself.
