Something Old, Something New

Chapter 4 - Elevate Style

Hey guys, I am so happy to come back to you with a new blog post.  Just to update you all, I am still living in London.  My styling course is coming to an end soon, so now I must decide which directions my life will take next.   My new motto is to Live Elevated.  I made a vow to myself to elevate everything in my life - personal style, fashion, experiences, and overall quality of life.

I felt quite inspired the day I took these pictures so I took a few RISKS with my outfit and my hair - #ElevateIt.  My outfit wasn't too far fetched from my personal style (as you guys know it), but I did attempt laying my socks with sandals.  This trend is one that I hadn't been able to figure out, but I tried it...and it worked!!!  (In the photos below, you will see that I also wore my trainers as a alternate shoe option).

Now on to my hair.  I freed my 'fro.  I am normally reluctant to wear my hair out. But that is a thing of the past.  I am now more comfortable with my hair, and the many hands that seemed to be drawn to my hair.  lol.  My hair presents a boldness, and it is quickly becoming my favorite accessory.

So how do you elevate your personal style?? I advise you to take risk and step out of the box.  Be bold and confident in yourself, and the thoughts that may seem scary.  Allow yourself to be free and open.  I would even go as far as saying - Run away from the things you usually do.

On Set - Editorial Shooting

One week ago today my dreams came true.  I never would have imagined at the start of 2016 that I would move to London, England and actually have the opportunities that I have been given.

The day started with us stylist prepping our clothes (organizing and steaming) just before the models arrived, and then they were into hair and makeup.  Next up was the styling.  Above is a picture of one of my classmates/fellow stylist dressing her model.  Below are a few great shots from the day.

Here are a few shots of the model styled in my look.  My styling choices encapsulated the brief's theme which was Hippie Luxe.

Sourcing in Something Old

Hey guys, I have been shopping almost non-stop as of late for my very first editorial shoot, and although it has been a lot of fun, it is also very tiring...hence my face in some of the pictures.

Believe it or not but, it was incredibly hot in London over the weekend.  However, I still don't trust the weather here, so I wanted to dress nice and cool, but just in case the temps started to drop I wanted to be able to cover myself.  I picked up this maxi dress some time ago at a Goodwill for a few bucks.  Usually, I wear it belted at the waist for a dressy look, but this particular day I just wanted to wear it loose because I felt it looked best with the sneakers.   And this comfy look with the sneakers were a must for running around London, and going in and out of the shops down on Oxford Street.
